Fit Me by Maybelline Review

Maybelline’s Fit Me line has been around for quite some time. I was an avid user of the Fit Me Bronzer and Blush for years. Recently, I’ve seen tons of Youtubers and Beauty Influencers recommending the Fit Me Foundations, Concealers and Powders for their favorite drug store products so I figured I would give it try! I was able to grab the “Matte & Poreless” foundation and powder in my color but the Concealer was all sold out in my shade.

Foundation

This  “Matte & Poreless” foundation is packaged really beautiful for an inexpensive brand! This comes in a glass bottle with a black cap. The lettering is a sleek black and teal; overall very nice presentation. I do wish this had a pump on it, rather than just an opening to pour the product out, but that’s just a personal preference.

This blends into the skin nicely and wears well throughout the day. I would recommend a beauty sponge instead of a brush- just because the formula is thick, I’ve seen better results using a sponge.

The formula is matte, however that’s the final product after I powder. I never wear foundation alone . My skin does not get oily wearing this which is great! If you have dry skin, or dry patches, this might not be the best product for you. I did notice the product grabbing on to areas of dry skin on my cheeks when I wore it without a moisturizing primer (but that’s because my skin is combo and this winter has been rough!)  I wouldn’t say the poreless claim is true. If you have large pores, I  would recommend a pore minimizing primer with this- Benefit’s Porefessional or NYX Pore Filler are great- so that you can get a smoother overall appearance.

This foundation is very build-able, which I love! I can do a thin layer for a carefree makeup day, or layer it up for more glam days (I recommend letting it dry before a second coat)! The coverage is really nice when it comes to acne, I like how opaque this is over red areas, dark circles and imperfections. I will say that this took my a few tries to really love. The first few times I went too heavy with the products and felt very cakey. Just be mindful of your application- thin layers, with a few minutes in between to dry will give you the best results!

Powder

The loose powder is packaged well, the cap unscrews easily and the powder is secure under a plastic sifter. I love that it comes out slow enough so you don’t end up with a huge dust cloud and you can kind of control the amount of product you want to dispense, since the sifter is sized appropriately. The unit is plastic, but very durable. Keeping with the theme, it also has sleek black cap.

The texture on this powder is lovely! It is soft and finely milled so it applies flawlessly to the skin. This does seem to give a little extra coverage, since its a tinted powder, rather than a translucent powder. I would compare the texture to Cody Air Spun because it has that soft, velvet touch. This powder is not scented at all.

If you have pale skin- the 05 Fair shade is wonderful for baking the undereyes!! I have fair skin and most powders are too dark to highlight the under eye area. This however works really well! I use a sponge to set my bake under the eyes and then brush it off with a large fluffy brush. I then use that same large brush to buff the powder into he remainder of my face.  I would highly recommend using this sparingly- too much powder can give you cake face!

Overall

I really love both of these items! I find myself reaching for the powder a lot, it’s just the perfect shade for my fair skin. The foundation is great to have too, I tend to grab for it when I am having breakouts or if the bags under my eyes are really dark- the coverage is real!

These products are $5.99 each, so you really can’t go wrong grabbing both for $12! If you haven’t tried these, its worth giving it a go. Just be mindful of your skin type and the amount of product you are using- like I mentioned above it took me a few times to realize I was applying too much at first, this stuff is pigmented!

Now that I’ve tried this Matte & Poreless, I really want to try the Dewy & Smooth! Let me know in the comments if you would like to read a review on that one too!

First Impressions: Glam Glow Blue Sonic Mask

Once again, my curiosity has been peeked after seeing the same product all over Instagram. It seems every beauty gurus out there uses or promotes the Glam Glow Gravity Mud Firming Treatment, which is a shiny blue peel of mask. Glam Glow is known for their high end masks, which will cost you a pretty penny.

This is the .5 oz unit which retails at $22. The larger unit is $69 for 1.7 oz. I purchased my mask through Sephora, also for sale on the Glam Glow website. Like always, let’s break this down and find out if it really is worth the hype!

Packaging

Obviously this is a special product because of the packaging, being that it’s a collectors edition. I got the Tails container; there was also a Sonic one and a Knuckles one.

Smell & Texture

I don’t like the smell of this AT ALL, however I think I may be alone on that opinion. This has a very tropical scent, to me I smell coconut alcohol  and sun screen. I know, most people love that scent but I personally do not and I didn’t expect it at all.

The texture is thick and gel like at first. It spreads pretty far on the face as you rub it in, so I suggest going in with a little and add from there.

Application

The package does say to avoid the eyebrows and hairline, so be mindful when using this, don’t rip your hair out!

This dried pretty quickly. Because it said to leave on for 30 minutes, I thought this would stay wet for a while, or at least be tacky. However, within about 5 minutes this was dry to the touch. Running my fingers over this was interesting. The mask did not budge, slide, or even come off onto my fingers. It was completely locked in place on my skin. The mask was very smooth all over except for my forehead, which felt rough to the touch. I wonder if this is because my forehead is my oily area?

This is a firming mask, so expect a tightening feeling when wearing this!

Removing the Mask

This peels off very easily. I used the pad of my finger to roll the edge of this until I was able to get a good piece lifted off of my chin. From there I slowly pulled the mask away from my skin and it very gently peeled off. I was a little nervous to remove this, but it wasn’t painful or difficult, much to my surprise! When I pulled this off of my face, you could literally see indentations from my pores on the strips of mask. That shows you how this really penetrates pores to remove dirt and oil.

My skin felt very tight and smooth when I took this off. I rinsed with warm water, dried my skin and then followed with a moisturizer.

Results

Being that this is a first impression, I’ve only used this product once. Most of the time, with skin care, you need to try the product out for a few solid weeks to see any results. From my first use of this product I can tell you my skin already looks improved! My pores look smaller and clean. My skin looks refreshed and less dull. And the weirdest thing, my skin still feels tight like when the mask was on. It’s been about 20 minutes and my face feels tight and plump!

Worth the Hype?

I am truly impressed with this mask! I don’t think I’ve ever experienced immediate results with a skin care product, at least not the this level. I would 100% recommend this product, this may even become my new skin care holy grail! I cannot wait to do this again next week and see how my skin improved over time. Now I understand the hype on Instagram, this product works; totally worth the hype!

Ipsy vs. Sephora Play: July 2017

One of my favorite posts to share with you guys and gals are the monthly Ipsy and Sephora Play unboxing! If you are unfamiliar with these, they are a month subscription service that mails 4-5 products to your doorstep! The products range in size from sample, deluxe sample and full sized. In Ipsy, there is a mixture of high end and drugstore brands; Sephora Play is high end only, found in Sephora stores.

The items pictured are sample sized, unless otherwise stated. The prices listed along side the products are for FULL SIZED versions. The retailers vary, as I look up where to find these the cheapest, incase you do not have an Ipsy subscription. If you are in Ipsy subscriber, make sure to check their website as they do offer sales and coupon codes.

Let’s jump right in! These are the bags that I received this month:

Cosmetics Bags

These are both cute bags.. nothing I’m jumping for joy over, but they are cute nonetheless. The zippered bag, with the cartoon egg thing was from Ipsy.  The pink plaid Glamp Out bag is from Sephora. Now for the important stuff.. what’s inside?!

Individual Item Breakdown

Sephora Play Items:

Ren Clear Skin Care Ever Calm Global Protection Day Cream

This moisturizer is suppose to help the skin purify from environmental issues like smoke, pollution and weather. I have used a variety of moisturizers, but none that have made this claim. I am interested in how this would work but I feel like these are the type of products you need to use daily for a while to see it is really pays off.  ($22.97, walmart.com)

Clinique Chubby Stick in Woppin’ Watermelon

I have used a few of these before, in different shades and I do like the feel of them on the lips. These have very little color pay off  in these lighter shades like this. Since I already have a few of these in similar shades, I will be including this in an upcoming giveaway. ($17, sephora.com)

Madam C J Walker Beauty Culture Wonderful Deep Conditioning Masque

I’ve been more into hair care lately, so I will be trying this out for sure. My hair is chemically treated (bleach, color removers, and a ton of color deposits) so I could definitely use a refresher! I don’t typically use hair masques but that’s what these subscription boxes are all about- trying new things! ($32, sephora.com, currently out of stock)

It Cosmetics Super Hero Mascara

I have gotten this before in a subscription box and used it in the past. This isn’t my favorite mascara in the world, but I dont hate it. This does add a bit of length and volume, but nothing too dramatic. I do like that the formula being that isn’t too drying and it doesn’t flake. ($24, itcosmetics.com)

Ipsy Items:

Tarte Park Ave Princess Bronzer

I have heard a lot about this bronzer, it seems to be pretty hyped up on Instagram, soI was very excited to see this! I am not huge on bronzers, being that I have pale skin, but this gives such a nice glow-y feel that is perfect for the summer. I apply this with a large angled fluffy brush to my temples, cheekbones, and down the side of my neck. I love how this wears on the skin! The packaging on this is really cute too, with a faux crocodile skin on the compact. The pan size is good sized and I see this lasting my quiet a while! ($30, tartecosmetics.com)

Windy Lux Double Matte Whip in Angel Food

This product is a rose pink matte liquid lipstick. The packing and name is super cute, although it doesn’t seem like a very big sample compared to the same of most liquid lipsticks. The full sized in so adorable, it has little ice-cream cones on it , so cute! I did swatch this on my hand and it was tacky at first and then dried down completely matte. This is so long lasting, the swatch stayed on my hand the entire day until I removed it with soapy water! I am impressed with the staying power of these and would like to try other colors! ($13, winkylux.com)

Ciate Wonderland Gel Kohl Eyeliner Pencil

This is a cool concept, one side is eyeliner and the other side is an angled brush. The brush is insanely soft and flexible. I definitely thought it would be stiff and was really surprised at how well it blended the liner out with the bendable bristles. I haven’t tried this on my eye yet, so I dont know how well it would hold up in the water liner, but I will give it a whirl soon. I swatched this on my hand and the liner is a bit rough, not super creamy, but it does have good color pay off. The pigment is definitely bold and blends down softly, so I like that you could do a different looks with this product! ($18, sephora.com)

TonyMoly Im Real Sheet Masks in Green Tea and Lotus

I love receiving sheet masks in my subscription boxes because I always find new brands or mask types that I’m unfamiliar with. I am excited to try these out, I saw this brand listed on a makeup website recently and I was intrigued! These are really inexpensive for sheet masks, so if they work out for me, I will definitely be repurchasing. Who doesn’t want affordable skin care?! ($3 each, macys.com)

M Princess Pressed Eyeshadow in Biscuit

I am just not a fan of single eyeshadows. I typically throw them in a random drawer and forget about them. I am a palette queen all the way. I know, I know, just get a Z palette to hold all of my singles, I keep telling myself but haven’t actually done it. This color on this looks nice, but upwards of $15 seem like a lot of money for a single shadow. I did not open this or swatch it because it will be in an comping giveaway (possibly this week so keep you eyes peeled!) ($15.45, http://www.emmprincess.com.au)

Overall

The winner this month is clearly IPSY! I was really excited with the variety of products this month. It was 6 products total, since it came with two different sheet masks!  For $10 I am really ecstatic to receive a lipstick, eyeshadow, two face masks, bronzer and an  eyeliner!!!

Sephora Play on the other hand was a little underwhelming. I will likely use some of these, but I just wasn’t super excited the way I was when I opened my Ipsy bag. As you may have noticed, there are only 4 items listed for my Sephora Box this month, because I did not receive one of the items listed on my information pamphlet, so I know I was suppose to receive it… Also, the fragrance sample I received leaked…. so not great showing this month for the Sephora Box.

Urban Decay Velvetizer: Worth the Hype?

Urban Decay recently launched a new product, the Velvetizer Translucent Mix In Medium! This is a super finely milled powder that you mix in with liquid foundation! It’s is said to give extra coverage and make the skin look velvety smooth. I had to try this out since I’ve never tried a mix in medium before. I wanted to do a in depth review of this since it’s so new.

Purchasing/ Shipping

I purchased this from Urbandecay.com for $34 on July 5th. I recieved an email that night saying my order “was being prepped”. By the 12th the package was sitting on my doorstep! Thats 7 days total, but only 4 business days. I’m very impressed with the speedy delivery and how everything was packaged so nicely. The items were carefully wrapped in purple tissue paper which has little Urban Decay logos all over it! (I did order a few other products as seen in the photo)

Packaging

The box this came in has velvet detailing and so does the jar! It is super cute, although not that practical. The velvet on the jar seems to get covered by powder after just one use. Not a huge flaw, just something to point out.

The sifter is shaped like the Urban Decay UD logo, such a nice touch!

Color

There are so many “translucent” powders out there that are not translucent, so when I see something labeled as such, I’m hesitant. I was nervous that this would oxidize my foundation when mixed in, and give me the wrong color, however I was pleasantly surprised when this was actually translucent!!!! Yay!

Texture

This powder is the most lightweight, finely milled powder I’ve ever touched. It is so lightweight that it’s messy if you don’t pay attention. This will end up everywhere if you open the jar all willy-nilly, so be careful! Although, I really like the feel of this powder, it doesn’t work for baking the under eye because it’s so fine.

Things to Know Before Using

This product doubles as a setting powder and/or a mix in medium. If you are using this as setting powder, just keep in mind that this does not attach well to sponge. I wouldn’t recommend applying this with a beauty blender or trying to bake the under eye; the powder is just too fine to adhere to a sponge-like applicator. This is best applied with a large fluffy brush which will pick up the product and distribute it evenly.

To use this as a mix in medium, you need a liquid foundation. I’ve used a few brands with this powder and so far, the Wet n Wild Photo Focus is my favorite to combine with this. It mixes well with the Photo Focus and looks really nice on the skin.

How To:

Step 1: Pour out a dime sized amount of powder onto a glass palette or mixing bowl. This comes out quickly, be mindful!

Step 2: Add Liquid Foundation

Step 4: Mix Together (I used a brush handle)

This does thicken up the foundation immediately so it’s less liquid-y. Even thought this makes the foundation thicker, it doesn’t  change the blendability. The foundation still applied very smoothly and blended out nice.

I will say I had no hope for this product, why would you mix a powder into a liquid foundation?! I figured this would be weird but I WAS WRONG!! This really does give extra coverage!

Wearability

This looks so beautiful on the skin! It makes everything look soft and velvety. My skin looks so smooth and angelic! This does make my foundation Matte, but not dry or cakey. I love the way this look and it does seem to keep my skin from getting oily throughout the day. I have used this everyday since I purchased it. I will say one more time, be mindful when using this! A little product goes a long way and the more I have been using this, the better I have gotten at mixing the perfect ratio. In these photos I when a little heavy with the powder and because of that I had a some creasing under my eyes.

Availability

I purchased this from urbandecay.com for $34. I have also seen this listed on Sephora.com -although last I check it was sold out. That is a little pricey for the amount of product you receive, but a little goes a long way. If you struggle with your complexion, this is definitely worth the price.

 Overall

I am so impression with this product. It’s a very new concept to me and I am loving it! If you aren’t into full coverage or matte finish, then this probably wouldn’t be your cup of tea. But if you have discoloration, acne or uneven skin, like me, you might fall in love with this as hard as I did.

Has anyone else tried this? I’m curious on everyone’s thought! Let me know in the comment below.

Drug Store Prices, High End Results

If there’s one statement that I find myself repeating to others who ask about beauty, it’s “You don’t have to spend a ton to achieve a beautiful look!” There are so many IG accounts and Youtubers showing us all these luxury products that will seriously break your bank but what about those hidden gems at the drug store?! Lets shine some light on those drugstore priced products that have a high end performance.

Almay Liquid Eyeliner, $9.99

My eyeliner needs to  be 3 things: as black as possible, as matte as possible, and as long lasting as possible. This liquid eyeliner hits all three of those, plus its just under $10! I have used this eyeliner for a good majority of my life because its just sooooo good. The application is easy peasy and a sharp wing holds up really well throughout the day. I have used my fair share of high end liquid liners and most don’t come close to this amazing formula.

Simple Micellar Wipes, $7.99

These wipes will remove everything from your face effectively but very gently. I really love the texture, the wipes are soft and coated in the micellar solution. I have tried other brands that either have very stiff wipes or they’re just too dry. I start and end my day with these, using one in the morning before staring my makeup and one at night to take it all off! A quick tip for really hot summer days is to keep this package in your fridge! At the end of the day when your hot and sweaty, a cold wipe feels so nice to clean your face and make you feel refreshed!

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks, $5.99

I have a few Maybelline lipsticks in various shades and finishes but my all time favorite is the matte shade, Touch of Spice. This color is so pigmented and gorgeous and completed underrated! I see so many brands coming out with mauve-y shades like this, priced anywhere from $15-30. These Maybelline lipsticks wear really well and are not overly drying like a lot of matte products. I have to say this $5 lipstick is blowing a lot of these luxury brands out of the water.

Shea Moisture Masks, 2 for $5

Everyone seems to be on a skin care kick lately, including myself! You want to start off with a prepped canvas to create your artwork so it makes sense so many beauty gurus love masks. I have noticed that skin care is getting reallllllly expensive lately. Luckily I found these mud mask packages for sale at Walmart, 2 for $5! Not only are these super inexpensive to begin with, but you can absolutely get more than one application per package! I typically get 3 masks per package since its so thick and creamy it spreads out pretty far with just a little product. I have tried a few of the different types and my favorite is the Radiant Mud Mask: with hibiscus & coconut as well as the Clarifying Mud Mask: with black african soap, tamarind & tee tree oil.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer Neutralizer (Yellow) $7.99

The yellow shade in this will neutralize purple undertones in the skin, making it perfect to cover dark circles. I would still recommend a concealer on top to better match you skin tone as this is more for color correcting opposed to coverage. The packaging on this is so well thought out. The top is a dome shaped sponge that soaks up the product when you turn the bottle. You will hear this click as the product rises to the sponge. Having this packaged like so, you really can get every last drop out of the container, oppose to wand concealers where you just cant reach what has settled at the bottom. The one pictured is running extremely low, so I will be replacing soon! If you have dark circles under your eyes, this baby will become you new best friend.

NYX Liquid Suede, $6.99

These are pretty much Matte, but they say suede. They aren’t overalls drying, but I would suggest a lip scrub before using this for an even application. The formula of this is smooth and creamy. The colors are completely opaque and wear beautifully throughout the day. I do like that these are buildable, you can reapply and not get cakey, cracked lips.

Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation, $5.99

If you need a full coverage foundation, look no further! This foundation covers acne and dark spots wonderfully and still feels light on the face. I would 100% recommend this product to anyone who wants a lot of coverage but not a big bill. I have a more in-depth review of this product in a previous blog post titled “Wet n Wild vs. High End Foundations”. Check that out for more information.

Pur Cosmetics Elevation Palette, $15

This is the only product on this list you cannot find at a drugstore; this is available online at purcosmetics.com but I just had to include it on the list. Most high end highlights run about $30 each. This palette comes with three colors AND a small fan brush for $15, such an amazing deal!!!! The formula is soft and velvety. Pigmentation is beautiful and the shade variety is really nice being there are 3 colors: champagne, pink, and silver/white tone. I love the way these look on the skin, so smooth and bling-y!

Overall: These products all work so well, they could definitely be sold for more and still be worth it. Not that I’m complaining, I love the low price tags associated with these stellar products! What you you guys and gals think about this list? Are there any products on here you use instead of high end items? I know I love all of these cosmetics so much and find myself reaching for them over really expensive items I own.

High End Splurges- Worth the Price

I like to have a mixture of high end and drugstore products in my beauty arsenal. There are a lot of drug store products the are just as good, if not better than high end products. However, every so often I come across a high end product that can’t be beat. The items listed below are on the pricey side, ranging from $25-50, but totally worth it!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette, $49

img_3818

This baby is amazing! It comes with a variety of fun colors in the pink/peach-y family, but also your basics (black, white and transitionary shades). This is 100% the type of palette I look for, being that you can create full look with this palette alone. There are 18 shades included that apply and blend out flawlessly. The color is very rich and pigmented. Not to mention, this smells like peaches because its infused with oil, YUM!

Kat Von D Beauty Lock It Foundation Brush, $34

img_3429.jpg

Nothing compares to this brush! I’ve used Beauty Blender and other sponges and I do like the finish you get from them, but this brush just applies everything soooooo quickly. I feel as though this is easier to clean than sponges. too, which is a major plus. The long spiked handle fits so well in my hand. The bristles are dense but soft, it’s not scratchy at all. I purchased this brush in December and have used it every day since, I can’t go back to anything else!

Benefit Roller Lash, $24
This product is fairly new to me, I recently picked this up in a travel size at Sephora and will definitely be repurchasing! I love the lift this give to my lashes. I typically use a lash curler and then top with the Roller Lash. I can actually see the curl of my lashed holing throughout the day, more so than other mascaras I’ve tried recently. I will mention the texture of this is different, as its a gel like consistency. I think that’s what holds the curl so well, but the one downfall, it’s a little tough to get off your lashes.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush, $28

img_5522.pngOh my goodness, I have never been so in love with a blush. I got this blush in ‘Celebrated’ as a Christmas gift and never looked back. The color is the perfect shade for my pale skin. It blends well and wears throughout the day. I have been using this religiously and haven’t even put a dent into the pan, so I would say this is worth the price. Even though this is expensive, its last forever. I cant say enough about this product!

Benefit Professional, $31

Screen Shot 2017-03-16 at 6.01.20 PM.png

This product work! I was iffy on this for a while because it is pricey, and I don’t always use primers (a lot of the time I do face moisturizer instead). I did a little experiment where I wore no primer one day, and then the Porfessional the next, look at the difference! I cannot believe how well this fills in the pores to make the skin look smoother. I have pretty bad acne pitting and scarring so this is definitely worth the extra money.

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream, $26.50

img_5679.jpg

This works wonders under makeup or alone. This de-puffs the under eye makeup and smooths everything out. I really love this cool refreshing feeling on my eyes before applying my makeup. I have been trying to be more cautious of my under eye area, as the skin is delicate and needs extra moisture.  A little goes a long way with this product, so it should last you a while.

I hope this was helpful if you are interested in one of these products, or just looking to expand our makeup collection. These products are definitely worth the price!! Please note that these are my personal opinions, and yours may differ. Due to different skin types and personal preference, our opinions might not be the same, but that’s okay! Let me know in the comments if you guys and gals have tried these products before and what you think of them!

No-Makeup Makeup Look

We all have those days where we don’t want to do our makeup, but we also don’t want to look like a corpse, (especially if your pale like me!) My no-makeup makeup look is no hassle & easy peasy!

This morning was one of those get up and go mornings. I didn’t have time to do a full face look and to be honest, I really didn’t want to! I did have a bunch of running around to do so I wanted to look somewhat presentable. This was me this morning, prepare your eyes & excuse my hair clip haha!

When doing a no-makeup makeup look you obviously want to limit your products to make it quick, efficient and natural looking. I used 6 products for this look: foundation, concealor, loose powder, blush, brow pomade  and mascara.

I started with Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation, by dabbing small dots all over my face. I then blended it out completely using the Kat Von D Lock It Edge Foundation Brush. I made sure to blend my neck out completely and the areas on the inner corners of they eyes and nose. Blending out foundation or concealer on the eye area is sooo important as we’re not wereaing eyeshadow in this look.

I then used the Kat Von D Creme Concealer on my Under eye area and acne spots, again I blended this out with the same brush.

I immediately followed this with Coty Airspun Translucent Powder, using a LaLa powder brush.

For my brows, I applied NYX Tame n Frame Brow Pomade using an Elf lipbrush that is the perfect size for brows!!!! And brushed out lightly with a clean spoolie.

The blush I use is one that I’ve been addicted to. I haven’t used a different blush since I got this one for a Christmas. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Celebrated is the most amazing soft color. The hue is a warm pink, also peachy but mauve-y at the same time. I can’t say enough good about Tarte, it’s such an amazing brand. But I digress.

I finished the look by curling my lashes and applying Benefits Roller Lash, which is a new product to me. I recently picked this up and I’m really enjoying the gel like consistency.

Just like that, I no longer looked dead! It’s nothing glamorous but it does make me look refreshed and awake, and covers my acne! Let me know what you guys and gals think about this post!
